Ever since the launch of the PSVR, fans have loved The London Heist game that was included in the PSVR worlds title. Everyone loved it so much that they wanted a full game to release for it. And Sony listened, similar to Astro Bot, we now have an expanded version of what London Heist built. But I’ve been a little skeptical, the demos that were playable at game events had negative feedback. So, is Blood & Truth any good?
Blood & Truth is a game that has you playing as Ryan Marks, the game starts off with the main character attending a funeral. And shortly after, things go really badly. But that’s all I’ll say, the story is a big part of the game so I won’t spoil anything else.
The game takes place in London, but one of the things I love most about the game are the many locations you visit in the game. Every mission brings you somewhere new and exciting, and I was always excited to see where I would visit next. You’ll be going to rooftops, buildings, or even inside of moving cars. This really helped the game stay fun and exciting at all times.
But what about the gameplay itself? Most of the game will have you using a variety of different guns to kill enemies. You’ll be using pistols, machine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, and many more weapons. You can even customize those weapons at the hub! You can wield up to 4 guns at once, 2 pistols, and 2 heavy weapons. The gunplay is really great in this game, they’ve nailed the tracking on all of the weapons. The guns feel great, work great, and reloading is realistic but easy. There are also segments where you’ll have to use some of your tools to open doors or deactivate devices. These are nice segments that spread out the action a little more. And finally you can climb, multiple times in the game you’ll be climbing on poles and walls to reach places you need to get to. The climbing also helps to change up the gameplay a little.
Now one controversial thing about this game before it came out was the movement. There is no free/full locomotion in this game, the movement consists of moving from point to point. But occasionally your character will move automatically. I personally had no issues with the movement, I thought it was well done and works for a game like this.
One thing I need to mention is just all of the graphics, animations, and environments. All of those are some of the best I’ve seen on PSVR, the animations, or more specifically the facial animations, are extremely realistic and well done. And when combined with the great voice acting it really helps to add to the immersion. The graphics can be a little blurry when looking at far away buildings or objects, but it wasn’t anything jarring or too noticeable. And every single environment in this game is extremely detailed and well done. It’s really impressive!
So Overall, Blood & Truth is everything I hoped it would be and more. The gunplay, environments, music, voice acting, story, and gameplay variety are all fantastic. This really is what a triple A VR game looks like! And while it’s only a few hours long, it really sold me on that feeling of being in an action movie, or playing an Uncharted game in VR. This is a game that is worth your money, and will hopefully sell more people on PSVR. It’s given me some of the most exciting and best moments I’ve experienced in VR, and I know I’ll be coming back to it again and again.
