For months a company known as Labrodex Studios has been teasing their new PSVR title Scraper: First Strike. Myself and many others have been interested in the title, and now it’s finally out! So, is Scraper any good?
Scraper: First Strike is a PSVR mech game that has you playing as Casey Maxwell, a pilot of a Hover Pod. You and your team are trying to take back a building that has been taken over by robots. The story is something that has been heavily promoted, mainly because it was written by Ryder Windham, who is known for making Star Wars novels. So I won’t spoil any more of the story.
The gameplay is all about controlling your hover pod to move around and fight enemies. Your hover pod has two guns, one super move, and smaller things like an EMP or healing device. But you can also upgrade your mech to create new weapons. The movement for the mech works great, you can strafe, move in any direction, and boost. I have no complaints for how they designed the hover pod. The game is mission based, you’ll be given a few missions at once and you’ll have to complete them to move on. The missions are pretty straight forward, but the challenge comes more in the combat. Fighting robots can get pretty difficult sometimes, it forces you to use all of your weapons well if you want to win each battle.
The game supports the dual shock 4, aim controller, move controllers, 3Drudder, and has all the comfort controls you’d want.
I would love to go more in depth with the game, but sadly I can’t. A little over an hour into the game I completed the first floor and moved onto the next, I ended up dying shortly after and had to load a save. But I totally forgot about the save files, so I ended up having to redo the last floor. But then I ran into a glitch where I couldn’t complete my missions because a robot wouldn’t spawn. This was the robot that would drop a key to the next floor. I spent a good amount of time looking around for the robot, and waiting for it to spawn. But nothing happened, so I ended up restarting the game from the beginning. As soon as I got back to the point, I went to the right area but the robot still wouldn’t spawn, so I tried completing other missions, I tried exploring other areas, and I just experimented with the game for over an hour. But nothing worked, I came back to it a day later and still had no luck. So I really can’t tell you guys wether or not the game is good, because at it’s current state it’s not playable for me. I’d love to tell you guys wether or not it’s worth your money, but I just can’t. I don’t know what happens with the gameplay, I don’t know wether or not the story is good, I can’t explore the other environments, I can’t do anything.
So overall, Scraper is an unplayable game for me. Most other players seem to be able to play the game, so if you want to take that risk go ahead. But I just really can’t give my full thoughts on Scraper until it gets a patch to fix this issue.
