During E3 of 2018 a PSVR game was announced called Ghost Giant. A lot of people including myself were really excited to check it out, and now the game is finally out. So, is Ghost Giant any good?
Ghost giant has you helping a boy named Louis. You meet each other at a lake for the first time and your relationship grows throughout the game. You play as a Giant Ghost, as the title suggests. And throughout the game you’ll be solving puzzles. These puzzles mostly consist of messing around with multiple objects and pieces of the environment. It kind of felt like a point and click game.
As a ghost you can grab, poke, and sometimes use the built in microphone. It might not sound like a lot, but they come up with a lot of unique gameplay elements and situations.
The game has you going scene by scene. You’ll always be in one spot, there is no form of locomotion in this game. But there is click turning with a black fade transition. You’ll be going across many different areas, which are all filled to the brim with detail. The environments are well crafted and you can tell they put a lot of time into it.
In each stage there are up to four collectibles to find. From what I can tell you don’t unlock anything in-game for 100% completion. But you will need to get all of the collectibles if you plan on getting the platinum trophy.
One of the best parts about the game are the characters. More specifically the main character Louis, they did a really good job on making you feel like you’ve built a relationship with Louis throughout the game. He’s not an annoying little kid, but he’s actually really likable and in some cases relatable.
And part of the reason I like Louis is because of the story they told. It’s a simple story, you’re not going to be fighting enemies or saving the world. It all takes place in a village, and I really liked that. It’s a small but enjoyable story, and it has some heart.
And on top of all that goodness, the music is really great in this game. It fit the setting of the game and really helped make some scenes even more impactful.
So Overall Ghost Giant is amazing. The gameplay, story, art style, level design, and music are all fantastic. At the beginning of the game I knew that this was something special. I had a few minor issues with some objects, mostly involving the physics messing up. But it never got to the point where I had to restart the level. But where things get a little tricky is the price tag, it really just depends on how much money you’re willing to spend for a game like this. The game took me a little under three hours to beat, so don’t expect a eight or nine hour adventure. In my opinion I think great titles like these are worth the price tag. But if you’re not willing to pay full price for just a few hours of gameplay, I can’t blame you. So wether it’s full price or on sale, I recommend Ghost Giant to everyone.
